Reality of the Road to Recovery-Pughs
Organized by: Road2Recovery
EVENT DATE Dec 31, 2014
Kyle and I have both experienced the effects of cancer in our lives first hand for the past 15 years, after losing our first spouses to this very ugly disease. When Kyle was diagnosed with Large B Cell Lymphoma five years ago, it took an emotional, physical and financial toll on our family. We understand the many hidden costs associated with this disease, especially since each year brings on medical complications and more expense.
Five years later and Kyle has been diagnosed with a recurrence. He will be receiving chemotherapy treatments and then a stem cell transplant over the next 6 months. He will have to reduce his work hours or shutdown all together several times during that treatment period. Could you live on less income? As it happens, our family WILL be able to get by. However, many cancer patients or their families cannot.
It is our goal to assist as many families as we can during their trasitional phases from illness to recovery. We will set up infidividual or family fundraisers with the money going direclty into their personal bank accounts to assist with their day to day living expenses. As each family is helped, we will identify another to assist.
In the next month, my family will be competing in triathlons, participating in 5Ks, and hosting events to off set the financial burden of the Pugh Family who live right here in Summerville, SC. David has suffered from terminal thymic carcinoma for the past five years and Alicia is recovering from a breast cancer diagnosis this past Spring. They have one son who is entering the 4th grade.
We just met them today, August 9, 2014! Think about a member of your own family who has suffered at the hands of cancer. Cancer has no boundaries, y'all. Nobody asks for cancer, so who can ever be finanancially prepared for the side effect of debt? What we do know for certain is that God tells us to help those in need.
So, how can you help? Can you make a financial contribution? Get sponsors for a race? Host a bake sale, a carwash, a cocktail party? Can you do a #chillin4charity challenge? Can you ask 10 people for $10 (that's giving up 2 starbucks, 1 movie, a fast food meal!) Be creavtive and care!
Proverbs 3:27 Whenever you are able, do good for people who need help.
