Stuff About Me:

On November 4, I will be running the 2018 TCS New York City Marathon in order to raise money for Run As One, a joint fundraising between the Thomas G. Labrecque Foundation and LUNGevity, non-profit organizations dedicated to preventing lung cancer through research and awareness. I am very excited to participate in this event, because it was 20 year ago that I trained for and completed my very first marathon which was the New York City Marathon! But this time I need your helpl

In order to participate in the Marathon, I have made a commitment to raise at least $3,000 for Run As One in memory of my father, Thomas Heath. I am asking friends and family to consider sponsoring me for this event and would greatly appreciate your kind consideration by making a donation toward this goal. All donations are of course tax deductible.

My father was a smoker however he quit over 16 years before he was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer.  He took his last breath only 6 weeks after his diagnosis.  His battle was fast and furious and he was a warrior through it all.  If he had been diagnosed earlier there is a good chance he would still be with us today.  When I found the Run as One/Thomas G. Lebroque charity and their dedication towards preventing lung cancer through education and research it was an easy choice for me.

Lung cancer remains the leading cancer killer among both men and women in the United States.  Furthermore, many don’t realize that more than 60 percent of people newly diagnosed with lung cancer have never smoked or have quit smoking. Over 50 percent of new lung cancer cases will be diagnosed at a very late stage—Stage IIIb or IV—when treatment options are limited. Only five percent of those diagnosed will live more than five years after diagnosis! This could be prevented if an early detection tool was available, and continued research is the key.

To this end, Labrecque Foundation and LUNGevity remain committed to spreading lung cancer awareness in order to end the stigmas associated with the disease, knowing that greater understanding will bring increased funding. Medical research has enabled women to survive breast cancer and men to survive prostate cancer. The same can be done for lung cancer patients, but only with increased awareness and a greater commitment to funding for critical research.

I hope you will please join me in supporting this very important cause.
