On March 20th, 2011, I am running my first NYC Half Marathon! I was inspired to [FINALLY] run this year on behalf of 92Y Youth Sports Scholarships because I want to set a positive example. 92Y for Youth Sports Scholarships are awarded to children whose families cannot afford to pay for after-school sports and wellness programs.
Growing up, my role models were my parents. Though they were not interested in an active lifestyle, they never held me back. Their sedentary lifestyles led to Diabetes, Heart Disease, and a myriad of other health problems which eventually took both of their lives before I was 20 years old. When I run, I think of my parents. Every time. Though the memory of my mother and father makes me smile, the tragedy of losing them so early in life also drives me to run harder, further, and faster. Without my parents I would not have the legs to push me forward up those hills, the lungs to breathe deeper, or the mental focus to keep going.
By donating to this cause, you're not just supporting me and my efforts to run 13.1 -- you're giving those who are less fortunate a real chance at living a long, active, and healthy life with their own families. In addition to donating, please forward this on to anyone in your network who might be interested in making a difference.
Thank you for your generosity and support!
