Dolakha is an ancient, historically important town located about 145 kilometers to the northeast of Kathmandu. In May, 2015, aA 7.8 magnitude earthquake caused massive damage to homes, schools, and community buildings, making 90% of the buildings unsafe for habitation. Eighteen days later, a second earthquake, magnitude 7.3, was centered in the Dolakha District and leveled the remaining structures. In the town of Dolakha, at least 88 people died and about 4000 people were injured.
