Rebuilding Ecuador's Coastline Communities
Organized by: Jose Holguin
Last April 16th 2016 a 7.8 magnitude earthquake on the richter scale, shattered the Northern Coastline of Ecuador. More than 28,000 people have been left without homes, becoming victims of this event which destroyed several cities. Up to this friday 20th of May around 1500 aftershocks have been recorded, some scaling up to 6.8 magnitude. People are frightened and helpless. Efforts in order to rebuild communities are a priority and in alarming need. We are gathering a group of volunteers of diverse backgrounds in order to implement alongside locals, projects in which we may redesign and reconstruct resilient and productive communities. Projects which encompass sustainable building, family and community farming, water treatment, harvest and storage; waste management and compost latrines. This is a project which will take much effort and energy. Capital is needed in order to kickstart not only these efforts but to bring peoples hopes back in times of difficulty and hardship.
