Rebuilding homes in Charghare, Nepal
Organized by: Sustainable Village Project - VolNepal
More than one year after the Earthquake, many people have not been able to rebuild their homes and instead are living in temporary homes.
The tin temporary houses the families have constructed are too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter, providing no insulation.
98% of the households were affected in some way by the earthquake and 92% of them classified the damage as “very much.”
95% of the households think that their house represents a danger for their family, which is evident as 86% of the population lives in a temporary house.
The Sustainable Village Project will:
1) Find geologically reasonable places for rebuilding the houses
2) Integrate technology and design for earthquake safe houses using domestic materials
3) Build two sustainable earthquake proof houses to serve as examples
4) Support the community in financing their new houses by themselves
