Rebuilding the Homes of Ecuadorian Earthquake Victims
Organized by: Isabel Klemmer
Update on our trip to Ecuador
September 01, 2016
EVENT DATE Jul 06, 2016
The recent 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit the coast of Ecuador on April 16, and was concentrated in the coastal Manabi Province, devastating several coastal towns. With over 650 people dead, 16,000 injured, and countless buildings and important infrastructure destroyed, the victims of this disaster are in dire need of assistance. Though the topic may not be breaking news anymore as the media has moved on, that doesn't mean the Ecuadorian people aren't suffering. One coastal town that I have visited twice and really love, Puerto Lopez, had 11 buildings destroyed. Rebuilding will continue for years to come, and families can be best helped through monetary donations. Our goal is to raise 5,000 U.S. dollars to help with rebuilding the homes and businesses of these victims.
Note from Amy (Isabel's mom): I will be traveling to Puerto Lopez for two weeks in July on a research grant and Isabel will be accompanying me on this trip. We will distribute 100% of the funds directly to the families identified as having the greatest need while we are in Puerto Lopez this summer. We will post updates on the people you are directly helping to rebuild their lives after this devastating earthquake. Please consider donating. No amount is too small to make a difference! Cash and checks are best, but donations can also be made with a credit card directly through this website.
