NEPAL EARTHQUAKE - Rebuilding devastated Village of Bigu
Organized by: Val Tomey
Nick and I have been travelling to this remote village with volunteer teams every year for the past five years. We returned from our most recent visit there just 10 days before the earthquake struck. Bigu was home to the largest Buddhist Gompa and Nunnery in its district, and was the spiritual center for dozens of villages in the region. Over 80 nuns lived at the nunnery, ranging in age from 6 to 92. The nuns' dwellings, communal buildings and temple have been completely destroyed, forcing the nuns to sleep outside as the monsoon rains advance. The vast majority of homes in the villages around the Gompa have also been destroyed. The roads to Bigu are horrible at the best of times due to its remote location. Now the village is completely cut off with impassable roads. They have seen no government or foreign aid since the earthquake struck.
All donations made to this fundraising effort will be used to rebuild the nunnery and village homes. We will send ALL funds to our in-country partner who has been the coordinator for our volunteer teams, and who also has a personal connection to Bigu. We have COMPLETE confidence that ALL funds will go to their intended use. And Nick and I plan to head back to Bigu later this year or beginning of 2016 and will be able to verify firsthand how the funds have been allocated.
PLEASE HELP. All donations, no matter how small, will go so far to help this devastated community!
