Unless one has lived in such a place it is hard to fully understand what it is like to live in the second largest slum in Nairobi, Kenya. For those who do call Mukuru Slums home they are faced with many challenges such as clean water, sanitation and medical facilities. Normal, everyday life consists of drugs, prostitution, abortions and many other vices which continue to bind especially the children down into a life where there seems no hope. It is these conditions that inspired good people like you to initiate the idea of starting education programs within these slums. The ability to read and write is one of the greatest gifts of hope that can help lift one out of the slums and create a life beyond poverty. It was for this purpose, Joy House Education Center was started. It now oversees over 400 pupils and the biggest challenge they face today is the high number of kids who desire to join the centers but the space and resources have always been limited. Recently, a devastating fire ripped through the slums and destroyed not only many homes but the school itself. We are enlisting your help to join us in rebuilding the school, to restore the one chance these children have to reach beyond their circumstances and rise from the ashes through education. Please help us with any donation you will be amazed at how even $10, combined with others will help us reach our goal. Please contact us if you would like to help in other ways. We also organize humanitarian trips to Joy House School. If you are interested in joining such a trip please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you for all you do for others.
