BENEFITING: 50 CENTS PERIOD INCORPORATED
What started with $100 and some relief supplies has turned into an effort to rebuild villages in earthquake-struck, starting with Rainaskot, in the district of Lamjung.
It was 3 in the morning in New York when Natasha received a text from Bibek Pandit, who was walking back from delivering relief supplies, informing her that he was asked to help rebuild a whole village.
They decided to take on the project together and within a week, FundforLamjung.org was up and running. The organization 50 Cents. Period agreed to come on as a 501c3 sponsor in the US and Sarvodaya Sewashram of Lamjung became the sponsoring NGO in Nepal.
In the 9 months that followed, they were off and running. Engineers and architects put together seismically resistant buildings, community meetings were held, supplies were procured and brought up to the mountaintop, and government permits were arranged.
The construction was inaugurated on September 18th, 2015. Now the first five houses are funded and nearing completion, and it is time to fund the next 12 houses and community buildings so that the village can be complete by the first anniversary of the earthquake on April 25th, 2016.
