EVENT DATE: May 19, 2012
HOURS PLEDGED: 120
Each year since 2000, Rebuiding Together Greater Milwaukee has set aside one day for skilled individuals and professional trades people to remodel several pre-selected homes throughout the Milwaukee area. These volunteers handle tasks that our very low-income eldertly and disabled homeowners cannot - from painting, plumbing and electrical work to window replacements, accessibility modifications and general repairs.
My Team will be working on Ms. Katie's home:
Katie, age 76, has lived in her home over 42 years. She originally rented the home and took such good care of it she was given the home by the owner when he passed away. Katie is originally from Clarksdale Mississippi. She came to Milwaukee to care for her mother who was up here and then stayed after her mother passed away. She raised 6 foster children and has 2 grandkids and 5 great-grandchildren. Katie worked for many years in housekeeping at the airport and retired in 2002 because of knee problems. She also had surgery on her shoulder in 2007.
Katie likes to take the bus to go to the mall and sometimes meets up with her cousin who lives close by. She used to enjoy sewing but her sewing machine was ruined in the flood a few years back. Katie does not have a clothes dryer and hangs all her clothes to dry
