Rebuilding the Barn

I am nominating my parents: Robert and Linda Thompson. They have 4 children including myself. They have lived in Deering for 15 years. My father is a mechanic, my mother is a nurse. My parents are the most hard-working people I have ever met and have endured some extreme conditions, but this time seemed like the bottom of the barrel. This time, my parent’s barn was burned down. It’s not the materialistic items that the barn held but the barn represented my father’s lifelong hard work. All he has ever wanted was a place to call his own to carry out his passion of working on cars. My father, Bob, a mechanic, can fix anything, according to Aliyah, one of his 7 grandchildren. Almost every memory growing up there has always been a car in the driveway that my father was working on in addition his job at the forklift company. He takes on side jobs to make a little extra money, but he doesn’t do it for the money. He does it because he cares about people and knows that his skills are invaluable for others. It is also his passion. My father loves more than anything to work on and tinker with vehicles.

Both my parents support each other and 1 of their goals was to have a Ford Mustang. As a christmas gift to each other they found a fixer-upper mustang but this ended up being 1 of the items lost in the fire.

Bob was welding my brother's car on April 23,2015 when it was only a small spark that started the fire. The flames got out of control so quickly. By the time Bob went to grab a fire extinguisher it was too late. The smoke was surging and nothing was salvageable. Luckily Bob was safe; unfortunately they live in a rural area and by the time 50 firefighters got there, the barn didn’t stand a chance against the roaring flames.
