BENEFITING: PROJECT HEAL - HELP TO EAT ACCEPT & LIVE
This year, one week before my 49th birthday, I will attempt to run my first marathon. Like so many folks who actually choose to run this distance, I always knew that if I ever decided to run one, there would have to be an altruistic reason, in addition to achieving a pretty kickass personal goal. Over 30 million men and women in America continue to suffer from one type of eating disorder or another, and eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness. The struggle is real and the healing process is often painfully and hopelessly slow.
I will dedicate these 26.2 miles, to all who still suffer and am running in support of Project HEAL-- a registered non-profit, with chapters nationwide, that helps fund recovery treatment costs for women and men seeking such.. Aggressive eating disorder treatment is rarely adequately funded by insurance companies. Since eds may soon be considered pre-existing conditions, there is an even greater need for funds to help those who suffer get the long-term care they need to recover.
I thank you for considering a donation to this cause, and will think of you all as I hit the pavement in Newport on October 8th.
