The 2009 population of Montgomery, AL was 202,124 people. In 2009 there were 21 homicides, 79 aggravated assaults, 4 arsons, 188 burglaries, 15 disorderly condicts, 56 driving under the influence, 477 drug offenses, 31 drug paraphenalias, 4 family offenses, 61 forgeries, 93 frauds, 5 liquor law violations, 24 motor vehicle thefts, 7 public intoxications, 17 rapes, 65 robberies, 38 sex offenses, 529 simple assaults, 41 stolen properties, 452 thefts, 73 vandalisms, 69 weapons law violations, 2 gambling, 7 kidnapping, 553 other offenses. This is a total of 2911 arrests made in Montgomery, AL, during the year 2009. Most of these arrests were drug/alcohol related. However, lesser pleas were taken, and the offense listed under a secondary charge. Now...with this being said... these are "arrests" that were made. Those who were not caught for these violations are far greater in number.
I have currently established a public facebook site called "Connecting the System Against Drug Addiction" or the CSADA. This is a page that is utilized to inform the public about what is taking place within the system in Montgomery, AL in hope that we can build up a support base that will assist us in changing the way all Law Enforcement communicates, especially when it comes to repeat offenders (those with prior records). We're attempting to request that a data base be created for all Law Enforcement to utilize so that once a violation has occured, the person who committed the crime is not laying limbo until another part of Law Enforcement can address it. (Please read the stories on the CSADA page in order to understand what is happening here.)
I have had my eyes on a hotel within the city called King's Inn, located at 1355 Eastern Blvd. This hotel was closed down after becoming drug infested. The property is now fenced in. My husband works with the City of Montgomery Housing Code Enforcement, and they have walked through the facility making sure that all units meet city code. The only issues they have seen is that some of the ac/heater units within the rooms will need repair or replacement. There are 152 rooms within the facility, and each room has 2 full size beds. The hotel also has a restaurant on the premesis which seats 335 persons. It is my understanding that all restaurant equipment is still on the premises. The restaurant is located at the front of the facility, and can be opened to the public to further generate funding to the facility. If gained, we'd like to utilize this hotel to house men in need of addiction recovery on one side, and women in need of addiction recovery on the other side.
