Recreation for All- Serving Children with Disabilities
Organized by: Danielle Kalb
As a teacher of students with disabilities including Autism, Down syndrome, Fragile X, SMS, Cerebral palsy, and intellectual disabilities, I have seen parents struggle with finding meaningful activities outside of school for their children. The activities available are not specialized, don't make accommodations, can't handle behaviors and provide untrained staff to work with the children. I'm looking to make a change. I would like to create an organization designed to provide children with disabilities safe and meaningful recreation opportunities. I would like to create a safe space where parents can feel comfortable dropping off their children knowing the staff is trained, meaningful activities are planned and their children are being treated with dignity and respect.
Activities will include fitness, games, outings within the community, learning to use public transportation, tutoring services, social skills and self-care tranining and much more.
