BENEFITING: American Red Cross
EVENT DATE: Oct 13, 2013
I'm running the Chicago Marathon this fall and I need your help. Before last year I wouldn't have called myself a runner. It all started when I ran my first 5K in Boston at the 2012 ACUI Annual Conference's FUNd Run. After running a few more 5Ks last summer, I made it up to 10 miles by the end of August and 13.1 miles last October.
In fact, it was last fall when I made the goal of running my first marathon. I was one of the lucky ones who was able to sign up the day registration opened for the Chicago Marathon in February. I knew I wanted to run for a charity, but I wanted to make sure that it meant something to me and my family.
Many of you don't know that Carrie needed two blood transfusions shortly after Lilia was born. I was so thankful that Carrie could receive the blood she needed just days after our first child entered this world. Prior to this I had donated blood a few times, but after August 2008, it took on a whole new meaning to me and my family.
Plus after hearing the inspirational stories of runners in the Boston Marathon running to the hospital to donate blood right after running 26.2 miles on April 15, I was further inspired.
Of course the American Red Cross is about much more than blood donation, but that's a significant reason why I am running for this charity on October 13. I would appreciate any donations to help me reach my goal of $1,000.
Keep running and please keep donating blood.
