THE NEW YORK CITY MARATHON is canceled.
I'm Running Brooklyn Instead.
And I think it's the right decision. But I've already promised to run 26.2 miles to support the Red Cross efforts in NY and NJ after Sandy demolished lives and homes. So I've registered for the Brooklyn Marathon on November 18th instead, and hope to raise $1000 before the race starts.
Support Relief Efforts for Hurricane Sandy
Your contribution will go to the American Red Cross and will provide critical support to those in need.
The large and powerful storm affected as many as 60 million people in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, and the Red Cross has workers and relief supplies in place to provide help to people affected by Sandy. More than 7.3 million homes and businesses are in the dark and thousands have been displaced from their home.
With more than 400 disaster workers mobilized, nearly 100 emergency response vehicles activated and around 200,000 ready-to-eat meals shipped, the Red Cross has geared up for a large response to this large and powerful storm. Thousands of people across the country sought Red Cross shelters since Sunday.
“This will be a large, costly relief response and the Red Cross needs help now,” said Charley Shimanski, senior vice president of Disaster Services for the Red Cross. “People can help by making a donation to support American Red Cross Disaster Relief.”
Financial donations help the Red Cross provide shelter, food, emotional support and other assistance to those affected by disasters like Hurricane Sandy.
Please donate any amount that you can to help the American Red Cross provide these critical services. Go even one step further and select the "Create Your Own Fundraising Page" button on the right to become a fundraiser for this cause.
