BENEFITING: HUMANE SOCIETY OF THE OZARKS INC
On Tuesday morning, September 8, HSO received a call from a man telling us his 2 year old hound dog had been shot and he could not provide any medical care for him. He requested assistance with euthanasia to end his suffering. We arranged for Red to go directly to our veterinarians. After an examination and talking with the owner, it was clear that while there was a good chance we could save Red's life, he was living in unsuitable conditions and would not be safe from further harm if he returned after recovery. The owner agreed to surrender Red to Humane Society of the Ozarks so we could provide him with care and eventually find him a new home. Red had extensive surgery on Wednesday, September 9. He had been shot with a shotgun and it had penetrated the abdominal wall. He had loops of bowel in the tears in the abdomen. Thanks to a donation of human grade medical mesh, everything was repaired and now Red is slowly recovering. His recovery will take a good while. I visited with Red yesterday evening. Despite the obvious pain he is in, he looks up with gorgeous brown eyes and sweetly nuzzles your hand when you stroke his brow. Red's vet bills are already over $2,000.00 and we hope to raise a total of $4,000.00 to fully cover his expenses. His doctors tell us he is making slow, but sure progress and everyone in the clinic loves him.
