EVENT DATE: Aug 06, 2011
We're raising funds for a proposed aquaponics project for the Amangwe Village of the ZCBF in South Africa. The project would be an integrated fish farm/veggie garden/chicken farm and would cover the food needs of the Village's 100 or so residents as well as provide a small surplus for sale. Because it's a closed-loop aquaponics setup, every output from one function (ie fish farm) is an input for a different function and as a result, it's a zero-waste environment. The Amangwe Village is an AIDS care center and orphanage located in Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa. You can learn more here: http://www.zcbf.org.za/about.htm
To raise money for this project, we've joined the redneck fishing tournament: http://www.redneckfishingtournament.com/! It'll be a Bud Diesel fueled weekend hellbent on destroying the invasive Asian silver carp. We'll be going medieval on these fish alongside some real amurrricans in the name of saving our Lakes as well as providing food security to those in need. We're asking for pledges per fish we catch and all proceeds will go towards the aquaponics farm.
