Imagine having a sick child; fighting cancer; in dire need of a heart transplant; or needing very specialized care to survive an illness or injury. Now imagine that the care your child needs is located in another city, county, state, or even country, or imagine not having the transportation to get to your child everyday. This is a devastating reality for many families with sick or injured children.
More than a place to rest, Ronald McDonald House Charities of North Central Florida, provides a place where families can support each other and keep loved ones close. The house offers 31 rooms, that provide a safe clean place to sleep, care for siblings, shower, and offers kitchen and laundry facilities, in addition to television and internet. The rooms are continually booked, and a waiting list is common, because the need is so great. The suggested donation for the use of a room is $15 per night, families are never turned away due to inability to pay, and only about 40% can afford to. In addition to the house, the Ronald McDonald Family Room is located just steps away from the PICU. This special room offers a place for families to regroup or grab a snack, but keeps parents close. The care and compassion families receive is made possible by generous donors, dedicated volunteers and committed staff members.
What you should know... • 88% to 90% of funds necessary to operate come from donations, special events, and fundraisers • The actual cost of maintaining a single room is $100 per night • We need your support! Nothing else should matter when a family is focused on healing their child; the love and support of family is a powerful thing; the love and support of community is priceless. Please, help us help them!
