BENEFITING: Stellas Hope Inc
In January 2016 Stella's Hope rescued 30 plus dogs from different situations in Baja ca . After a 2-3 week quarantine to ensure their health they were all ready to come to Orange County . transport was arranged ,foster homes in place and 30 plus healthy dogs were on their way to a brighter future . Unfortunatley things took a horrible turn after the transporter arranged for everyone to be dropped of at one location the day before they were scheduled to leave . The location was a small vets office in Tijauana . The dogs consisted of 3 moms with underage puppies none of which were old enough to be vaccinated . We don't believe this was an intentional act by the transporter but rather lack of knowledge at the time when it comes to the risks involved with exposing unvaccinated dogs to other animals that had and were coming in off the streets of Baja with unknown health issues . Distemper when in the upper respiratory stage is highly contagious to any unvaccinated dog breathing the same air . It only takes a millisecond to be infected . Once the dogs reached their fosters in Orange County it was only a matter of time before they started getting sick . By the the end of January we had to put down 7 puppies under the age of 12 weeks , despite all the supportive care we had given them , their neurological issues were debilitating . After the tragic loss of the 7 pups ,We had 3 that had also developed neurological distemper and were headed down hill quickly . One of the 3 was a puppy that had been adopted along w his 6 siblings , believed to be healthy at the time of adoption . After a lot of research we elected to take them by car to Houston Texas to Dr Huddelston to perform a very controversial spinal tap of Newcastle vaccine ( Dr Sears protocol ) . After a 48 hours in the car we arrived . Emerson , Baby and Blondie aka Bowie went under for the tap . Dr Hudelston was very honest about the outcome for Emerson and Baby given they had been this way for weeks , Blondie however was in the first 7 days of symptoms and if anyone was a candidate it was him . Upon awakening Blondie was 100% cured . I couldn't believe what I was witnessing . This truly did work . Sadly Emerson and Baby were still twitching , tremoring and having seizures . The second part of this protocol is 3 subq Injevtions of serum , which is a plasma created by a donor dog . A donor dog is given the same vaccine the pups received in the spinal tap and then 12 hours later a large amount of blood is drawn from the donor dog and the red blood cells are spun out and a plasma is created . It is said the serum will kill the virus in the body before it can reach the central nervous system . The vaccine given in the tap kills the virus in the brain . I left Houston w serum for over 20 dogs . Once back in OC I spent the next 4 days driving to every home of every adopted pup related to Blondie to administer serum . As well as to every foster home that still had the litter mates of Emerson and Baby and Stella's pups . Unfortunately during the time away Sunny and Brreze two of Stella's puppies had developed slight ticks . It was too late to get them a spinal tap so we just had to hope for the best . I'm happy to report every dog that recieved the serum along w a very strict diet and over 20 supplements never progressed into full blown distemper in fact after 2-3 weeks all tested negative , except Emerson and Baby . I do truly believe the decision to drive to Houston saved the lives of 23 dogs that had not reached the neurological stage of the virus . Emerson ,Baby, Sunny and Breeze got progressively worse , in Marvh i took everyone to a vet in Baja to have a second injection of the Newcastle vaccine given into the cephalic vein in the hopes it would stop the progression and kill what was left of the virus causing damage to their nervous system . Within 2 weeks they tested negative . However the damage had been done . It was now time to focus on how to help their quality of life with the damage left in the virus wake . These puppies story is long from over , all that has been done means nothing without doing all we can to ensure their quality of life . It's how time for rehab . Rehab consists of acupuncture and physical therapy . Dr Goulard and her team at Paws on the Go are the best in Orange County and based on what I have seen happen in only 3 sessions with Emerson I know all 4 can benifet from this . The delima is how to pay for it . The cost for one dog to go twice a week which is necessary for it to work is $1000 a month after a 10% rescue discount . It may sound crazy but again after all we have done thus far are we supposed to now quit ? We have made history w these pups , they should not be alive , they have beaten all odds , please don't abandon them now .
