BENEFITING: Big City Mountaineers
EVENT DATE: Sep 06, 2017
Thank you for supporting our REI Arcadia team in the 2017 8000 Meter Challenge!! The 8000 Meter Challenge is an event created by Mark Fulton, where outdoor retail participants attempt to hike and summit Southern California's three highest peaks within a day. These three summits are San Antonio (aka Mt. Baldy) at 10,064 feet, San Gorgonio at 11,502 feet, and San Jacinto at 10,804 feet ... these summits are also called the "Three Saints." The hiking distances for each of these summits are: about 8-10 miles for Mt. Baldy, 18-19 miles for San Gorgonio, and 12 miles for San Jacinto ... which makes the total hiking distance of this challenge over 38 miles to complete in a day! With the vision of Mark Fulton, the 8000 Meter Challenge has partnered with Big City Mountaineers as a fundraiser for this wonderful non-profit organization. All the money raised from each participating outdoor retail team will help fund Big City Mountaineers to provide an enriching and life changing experience to inner city youths, where these youths are provided wilderness mentoring expeditions. These underprivileged kids probably have never experience being outdoor in nature during their lives. Big City Mountaineers mentors and volunteers provide activities to instruct these kids about outdoor experiential education. The benefits that these inner city youths gain from these programs are improved self-esteem, communication skills, and a renewed positive outlook and goals for their future endeavors. We like to thank you for your donations and support of our REI Arcadia team, and to continue Mark's vision as we challenge ourselves to complete these three summits (Mt. Baldy, San Gorgonio & San Jacinto) in one day.
