EVENT DATE: May 13, 2016
This May, I'm running the Cape Cod Ragnar Relay to benefit COLAGE. Our team will run 200ish miles from Hull to Provincetown in this overnight running adventure. Why? Well, I get to run a lot with some amazing people (3 times to be exact, once for each of my children) while I raise awareness and money for COLAGE to keep doing incredible work. When you donate, you get to feel wonderful for helping us make it all happen!
Please keep reading to learn a bit about COLAGE and why I care. And please make a contribution to support COLAGE in their efforts to build community and create positive social change.
COLAGE has been empowering and building community with and for people with one or more LGBTQ parent(s) for over 25 years. Our family has attended the annual Family Week event in Provincetown, MA for 17 of those years. Family Week brings hundreds of LGBTQ headed families together to celebrate, support and enjoy each other. COLAGE provides programming for over 200 youth in 2nd-12th grade that week alone, with adult COLAGErs as volunteer staff. COLAGE programs offer a balance of creativity, recreation and skill-building. They provide a safe environment to talk with other youth about challenges they face and ways to become empowered, while focusing on connecting them with a network of peers that will be lifelong friends and a critical support system.
My oldest son, Justice (pictured on the right with his brothers), has grown up participating in COLAGE. Now that he's aged out of programming, he proudly returns as a volunteer staff member. As a parent, I've witnessed first hand the incredible power of our kids having a space to be themselves, share their stories and make connections with others who share their experience of having an LGBTQ parent. The confidence, compassion, relationships and newfound skills that result are inspiring. The experience and sense of community is simply life changing. I couldn't be more proud to support COLAGE and its growth, and I thank you for joining me.
