Relay for Life Cancer Fundraiser
Organized by: Ashwin Khurana
Hello my name is Ashwin Khurana. I am a sophomore in high school. I want to raise money for the American Cancer Society and cancer in general. Cancer is a deadly disease that can potentially end your life and as of now it has no cure. This devastating disease has broken up families and caused so much damage in our lives. My grandfather had nasopharyngeal cancer. This is a disease in which cancer cells form in the tissues of the nasopharynx, or the upper part of the throat behind the nose. This type of cancer is very rare but by God's grace my grandfather overcame this disease. He led on to live a stable life but gradually become weaker because cancer never fully goes away. He passed away a few months ago and that took a terrible hit on our family. My goal is for cancer to be a disease that is fully eradicated. Just the way we develop vaccines for many illnesses and get fully treated for pathogens, I want cancer to be stopped. We all have probably studied the Black Plague, a deadly disease that killed more than half the population of Europe in the Middle Ages. Yet, the disease went away. I wish for cancer to go away too but for that a solution is needed and a cure. The fundraiser I am participating in is for Relay for Life, an event that is sponsored by the American Cancer Society. In it we honor the ones who have succumbed to cancer and celebrated the lives of those who have hurdled over the disease. My personal goal is to raise the most money I possibly can so that the American Cancer Society benefits and more research is done to help prevent cancer. Nothing saddens me more than a person passing away, especially from cancer. I do not want more families to be torn apart because of this monster of a disease. We need to make a difference and help the innocent victims of cancer. Help me fundraise money for Relay for Life so people can be cancer free!
