BENEFITING: REFUGE FOR WOMEN
EVENT DATE: Oct 20, 2013
The idea of running a marathon is pretty intimidating. It truly takes alot of physcial and mental work to train one's mind and body to be moving in a forward motion for 26.2 miles. That being said, I wanted to make this, my first marathon, about something more than just me crossing the finish line.
Over the past few years the horrific stories of sex crimes, sex slavery, and sex industry in our world and in our own country have come to light in many news arenas and social media sites. It deeply saddens and burdens my soul to hear about such stories and the innocence that is too often ripped away from these individuals. The emotional, physical, psychological and spiritual pain that they must deal with on a daily basis must be incredible.
So, I decided I wanted to spred the word and raise money for a place, a ray of hope, that is currently available to women who are caught in the sex industry (which can often start out as involuntary). Refuge for Women.
Taken from their website:
"The Refuge for Women offers a new beginning to women leaving the sex industry. There is no charge to guests as they live and work together as a family towards healing. We are a faith-based non-profit. Although not licensed as a treatment facility by the state of Kentucky, our dedicated staff and volunteers utilize a highly successful curriculum and mentoring approach to help each guest progress through their unique challenges. We ask each woman to commit to a minimum three-month stay, with many women choosing to stay longer."
Remember: Every Exploited Woman....was once a little girl. Thank you for investing in someone's daughter.
