BENEFITING: LIFELINE ANIMAL PROJECT INC
On Wednesday, September 24, 2014, I said goodbye to my grandmother, Earlene Parker, aka Grandma Mom.
Grandma Mom was a simple, sweet, and incredibly loving woman, and I consider myself so incredibly lucky to have had her as a part of my life for nearly forty years. Always full of the most fantastical stories you could imagine, her presence and warmth filled the room whenever she appeared.
One of the greatest gifts she ever gave to me was a love for animals. If it purred, barked or squawked, she had a soft spot for it. I used to love visiting her house as a kid and hanging out with her and her pets. When I was 13 and my family moved to Atlanta to be near her and my grandfather, she gifted our family an adorable, shy little poodle to help connect us to our new home. That poodle became my best friend for nearly a decade.
Additionally, Grandma Mom had a knack for attracting nearly every stray cat in her neighborhood, ensuring that their bellies were full and that they had a warm place to sleep. Even after she moved into an assisted living facility several years ago, she made sure that my uncle took in a few of the sweeter ones and gave them a loving home.
So, in honor of Grandma Mom and all the strays that stole her heart (and filled her with stories of their goings-on that would rival any steamy telenovela), I'm establishing this fundraiser to support Lifeline Animal Project in Atlanta, GA, an animal rescue shelter that also spays and neuters feral cats. Please consider donating a little if you are able. It would mean the world to me!
