BENEFITING: SYRIA RELIEF & DEVELOPMENT
In the months leading up to a summer Ramadan we would like you to join us in a fundraising effort for Syria. Help us raise $3,000 by July 1st. The funds raised will go toward providing care packages for families in Syria and Syrian refugees in Jordan during the month of Ramadan, through the efforts of Syria Relief and Development (SRD).
SRD is a U.S. based nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing humanitarian aid to Syria. SRD will make sure that 100% of the funds we raise will be delivered to Syrians in need through SRD's Ramadan Care packages. The Care packages provided, will be able to provide Syrian families with enough food to last for at least four months.
Since the start of the Syrian conflict in 2011, there have been over 150,000 reported deaths, over 11,000 were children; 6.5 million displaced, 5.5 million children affected by the crisis, over 2.6 million refugees; and 9.3 million Syrians overall, are in need of humanitarian assistance, inside and outside of Syria.
Other things to consider:
- There are more than 2.5 million Syrian refugees in neighboring countries.
Jordan: Over 580,792, and rising;
Lebanon: 1,012,080, and rising;
Egypt: Over 136,067, and rising;
Iraq: Over 219,579, and rising;
-540,000 registered Palestinian refugees were living inside of Syria in 2011.
-270,000 of the 540,000 are now displaced and have fled to countries, such as- Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Turkey, Egypt.
- In the region, Jordan and Lebanon are two of the smallest countries, with very weak infrastructure and limited resources, and are struggling to accommodate this large influx of refugees.
-Prior to the Syrian conflict, there were roughly 160,000 registered Palestinian refugees living in the Palestinian refugee camp, known as "Yarmouk Refugee Camp". As of now, that number has diminished to 18,000.
-More than 60% of the 735,000 school-aged refugee children are not enrolled in school.
We really hope these numbers are looked at as more than just statistics, and encourage you to help us fundraise for this cause.
