Why I Got Involved: The fact that each year over 2million women and children are sold into prostitution makes me sick. Knowing that some girls are as young as 5 years old and hearing how they are treated and the conditions they are subjected to makes me angry beyond words. There is also such a lack of awareness around human trafficking, the scale and severity of it, its horrific. We have to take action. I want to actively be a part of the SMF vision "envisioning a world where women and children are safe from slavery" and help provide the victims with a shelter where they can heal, learn, grow and create a sustainable life for themselves.
Sex Slavery - Remove The Locks
Human Trafficking is a global multibillion dollar industry with over 2 million women and children sold to sex slavery each year. This is the second largest and fastest growing organised crime in the world. Children as young as 5 years old are sold into prostitution. Free The Slaves estimates there are currently 27 million modern day slaves around the world.
The Somaly Mam Foundation is a non profit charity working to eradicate human trafficking, liberate its victims and empower survivors so they can sustain a life of dignity. There a established shelters for survivors where they can go to heal and create a healthy and sustainable future for themselves. They envisage a world where women and children are safe from sex slavery.
