The Laramie River Valley Rendezvous (LRVR) is a wilderness camping trip for at-risk youth ages thirteen to sixteen in Northern Colorado, United States. During the week long trip, campers hike, bike, raft and horseback ride together with police officers, National Guard members, firefighters and other volunteers. Many of our referrals come from the Poudre School District (Police School Resource Officers, school counselors, etc.). We also receive referrals from mental health professionals and Larimer County Department of Human Services. Although anyone may apply to attend the camp, applications are screened for eligibility (age, risk factors, criminal history). Eligible campers come from single-parent homes, foster homes, or other situations that increase the risks that the teen will engage in unsafe or criminal behavior, but selected campers must not have an extensive or dangerous criminal history. This camp is free of charge to the participants, and provides transportation, food, tents, cots, bikes, horses, rafts and safety gear.
The camp takes place near the Rawah Wilderness area. Our goal is to build relationships with at-risk teens and provide them with positive role models while giving them an opportunity to enjoy nature and have fun. The Rendezvous' mission statement is: "We are a dedicated and compassionate group of community leaders who utilize outdoor wilderness camps and on-going mentoring to empower and transform at-risk youth into productive and successful community members" and we do this at NO COST to the campers.
Please help us make a positive impact in our community, thanks.
