Not every cause would MOVE ME to suffer & sweat on my bike all summer in preparation for a 3 day stage-race in the French Pyranees, but there's one right now doing exactly just that.
My name is Renee Lockey and this August I'll be riding the Trois Etapes for Rising from Ashes Foundation, an organization bringing hope & healing to Rwanda through sportsmanship, teamwork, & the unifying sport of cycling. More than that, I'll be pedaling to support a team of men who have become ambassadors of peace to millions around the world. www.rfafoundation.org
As inspirations often do, this one began with a simple story--one powerful enough to motivate me at 43 to dig deeper & push harder on a bike than I ever have before. And it's a story I'm eager to share. Click here to watch the trailer of an amazing documentary. Then buy it, stream it, or watch it on Netflix and let the story move you too. www.risingfromashesthemovie.com/
The Trois Etapes is one of the toughest Pro/Am cycling competitions on Earth, and it's an event that's as serious about GIVING as it is about challenge & sport. Fifteen charity teams--each composed of seven amateur and one pro rider--will gather this August in France to compete in a 3-day stage race on some of the most scenic & strenuous mountains on the Tour de France course. What I need to get me there is YOUR support-- both financial & personal. My goal, in addition to training hard & riding well, is to be a strong ambassador for the cause and to raise over $10,000 to support the work of the Rising from Ashes Foundation, whose current projects include:
- The development of the first world class cycling training facility in Rwanda the "Africa Rising Cycling Center"
- The launching of the Adrien Niyonshuti Cycling Academy which is developing the next generation of young cyclists in Rwanda
- The showing of Rising from Ashes across Rwanda, creating a resulting forum for Team Rwanda Riders to speak to their own countrymen about the power of sport to bring people together.
My team and I are grateful for whatever support you can give us, financial or otherwise. Your encouragement over the next 7 weeks is the fuel we need to get there prepared, and your financial support is what the foundation needs to continue their important work of promoting peace through cycling. Please pray for our team as we train hard in the Texas heat, and then summit the peaks of the Pyranees in August. When we go to France, know that you go with us. Because as Rafiki from Team Rwanda says - "Team is Team".
Pedaling with purpose,
