BENEFITING: OKLAHOMA CITY NATIONAL MEMORIAL FOUNDATION
EVENT: Oklahoma City Marathon 2017
EVENT DATE: Apr 30, 2017
My son and I joined our US Navy husband/father at Tinker AFB on October 11, 2015. The very next day, my husband took me, our son, and my mom to the Memorial. It was the first thing I did in Oklahoma City; and it was the most impactful museum I've ever been to. Fast forward to the 2016 OKC Memorial Marathon. I was wandering around the starting line before getting ready to board the shuttle to take me to my 3rd leg of the relay. The announcement of the 168 seconds of silence made its way through the corrals. Tens of thousands of people buzzing with excitement became silent as I became choked up and inspired to do more. This year I am registered for the full marathon, and I want to help raise money to help support a museum that moves its visitors, and honors the fallen with honesty, respect, and emotion. My goal is $1680 - or $10 in honor of each person lost on April 19, 1995; nineteen of which were children, that which hits closest to home for me. Pick a name found at the link listed below, and make note of that person you wish for your donation to honor. www.oklahomacitynationalmemorial.org/people/ Be sure to also explore the Oklahoma City Narional Memorial website to learn more about your potential visit; but more importantly to understand how important this fundraiser is for the Memorial because it does not receive any federal, state or local funds to support its mission.
