Driving home from work yesterday I came upon a woman in the road helping a dog that had been hit by a car. I stopped to help and we ended up taking him to my local vet where they found he had no broken bones but did have some head trauma. They stabilized him and then we took him to the overnight emergency vet. No tags, no microchip, running on the streets. $500 to my local vet. The other lady (a vet tech), who helped get him to the vet, put a gofundme on her Facebook and the so-called owner saw it, came to see the dog, and decided to abandon him to the local animal shelter where he continues treatment for brain swelling. We will try to get a rescue group to help get him adopted when his shelter hold is up in 5 days. I've been asked why I spent $500 for a dog in the street, but he was out right in front of me and I couldn't let a living creature just die when I was there to help. That's just how I am. ('hazard' of being an RN, I guess). If anyone wants to help with this bill, I would be most appreciative. And if anyone has dog rescue group connections, please let me know. Thank you. PS He doesn't look so great in this picture but he had been hit by a car an hour earlier and was on pain meds. We called him CHOMPER cuz he bit one of our fingers when we picked him up. Poor baby; too much pain.
