BENEFITING: Motley Zoo Animal Rescue
Motley Zoo Animal Rescue takes all kinds, though we are known to specialize in animals with special needs, disabilities and other conditions that require individualized- often expensive- treatment. This is not extraordinary or experimental, risky care- we're talking fixable, permanent treatments that literally open doors to homes for animals that would otherwise be considered "undesirable". We believe those "undesirable" animals are worth more than a number on their vet bill. We're seeking people like YOU, who feel the same to help us in our mission to save lives! Motley Zoo Animal Rescue provides a safety net for animals in the shelter system- animals like Bill Murray, a little maltese mix dog who was attacked by a bigger dog and lost the use of his back legs. When the shelter called us, we both knew we were his last chance- how could we say no? At best, we could fix him; at worst he'd stay as he was and need some wheels to help him get around. More than one vet suggested we euthanize him- but he'd look at us with his infectious smile and we just couldn't even consider it. He's named after the famed comedian not only because of his wild hair, but because he makes us laugh! He is a comedian in a dog's little body- and he reminds us how to live our lives without fear or regrets. Although in his situation, we couldn't do more than provide him a wheelchair, he has since had the opportunity for a new life all over again! His adopter never saw him as a dog with disabilities- she saw Bill as we did: vibrant, full of life and in need of a chance. She has been taking him to physical therapy for the last 10 months and he can now walk! He still uses the chair the majority of the time, but he can walk around for hours. He doesn't have a perfect gait and he occasionally tips over- but we know within the next 6 months to a year he will be walking alone and need the chair no more. We currently have FOUR dogs in need of that same kind of unconditional love and vet care that Bill Murray received. The "Twisted Sisters" as we call them, were born with spinal and leg deformities. We are not sure of their past, but we believe they are the product of "backyard" or "puppy mill" breeding- breeding animals for greed, not for the betterment of the breed or to the benefit of the animals. These unscrupulous breeders sell the animals (in any state of health) for profit- and those they cannot sell, like these sisters, are dumped at the shelter as "strays". We didn't hesitate for one moment when asked to take them in- but we never know when we do make that choice, how much it will cost to care for each animal as individuals; as they deserve to be cared for. It is in situations like this that WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT! Without you, we may have to say no next time. The underdogs need us to say YES! You can make that possible. Motley Zoo spends more than $15,000 each month on vet care. Please contribute whatever you can to this effort- and we appreciate you sharing this campaign. The animals thank you too- you will change their worlds!
