THE STORY:

RESCUED PETS MOVEMENT INC wrote -

Rescued Pets Movement’s mission is to provide a second chance for thousands of Houston’s homeless dogs and cats through rehabilitation and transport to forever homes in communities throughout the country that have a need for adoptable pets. So many people have joined the movement to help Houston’s shelter animals, and we are so thankful. Please take a moment to join with us today with a donation to our cause.

They come off the streets and through Houston’s City Pound often a little ragged, injured, sick, and defeated. Then foster parents welcome them into their homes and show them the same kind of love those formerly discarded animals offer—love that is unconditional.  At first they may be timid, with tails tucked and bodies trying to be as small as possible. Usually the first thing their foster families notice is how hard they sleep—finally able to relax because they’re not under a bush, in a storm drain, or in a cold kennel, but in a home with a safe crate or a soft dog bed. Their real personalities begin to emerge. They make us laugh, cry, and want to cuddle them and reassure them that, yes, they are worth saving. They’re worth the multiple trips to the veterinary clinic for medicines and booster shots. They’re worth the extra laundry and lessons about sharing toys and pottying outside or in the litter box. They’re worth the bottle feedings, the gentle baths, and the occasional mutilated shoe.

RPM’s program is one of fostering and transport. Once a pet leaves Houston’s City Pound, our foster parents dedicate a week or two with the animals, loving them, rehabilitating them, and helping them feel safe. Each Thursday, the pets are then placed on one of five retrofitted Sprinter vans to make their way to their new homes waiting up north. We all know the ache of saying goodbye to our foster pets and the anxiety about what comes next for them. Some of them tug at our hearts more than others.  The moment is bitter sweet. Sadness because they grew so close to their foster pet, but excitement knowing they are getting a second chance in another area of the nation where people actually want them. Often on social media, we are lucky to see the animals’ photos as they’re walked on their journey, and their tails are high as they explore new territory. We see photos of them nestled into the arms of waiting rescuers, fosters, or adopters. We see pictures and hear stories about them in their forever homes and know that they are exchanging the same unconditional love they experienced with us. When we see those who’ve been discarded, abused, or neglected learn to snuggle, play with other dogs, and sometimes even jump on the vans without help, eager for new adventures, we know that would never happen without your help.

With your donation today, you will show each one of these downtrodden dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens that you, too, believe they are worth it—worth both your time and your money.  Because of your donations and continued donations, the dogs and cats who are sitting on death row in Houston’s City Pound are given their second chance. To date, over 10,000 dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens are alive and thriving because of you.  Thank you.
