THE STORY:

Brandon Staglin wrote -

This year in America, over 100,000 young people will develop a psychotic mental illness. The bewildering hallucinations, delusions, and challenges with memory, attention, and other cognitive skills they experience will debilitate them in school, work and relationships. The disorganized behavior that can arise can lead to run-ins with incarceration. Co-morbid depression may, in some cases, lead to suicide. Our youth deserve life—a life of opportunity and potential.

CAPPS (the Center for the Assessment and Prevention of Prodromal States) is an IMHRO-funded clinical research center at UCLA that is part of a nationwide network providing innovative therapies to young people at high risk for psychosis or during their first episode.

Early treatment works. Meet Anna, one fine young person who, like thousands who have participated at CAPPS, is finding her footing again. Watch the campaign video to hear her story.

Your gift to IMHRO (One Mind Institute) for the CAPPS program will make a difference. Here are a few examples of what your contribution might accomplish.

  • $25 – cost of parking at UCLA for 2 families to attend psychoeducation, therapy or clinical evaluation appointments
  • $50 – cost for doing an outreach talk at schools or community mental health centers regarding early warning signs of impending psychosis
  • $100 – blood analyte panel for one patient OR – one group therapy session (sliding scale)
  • $120 – cost of a clinical OR neuropsychological assessment for one patient
  • $200 – cost of 30 hours of iPad-based cognitive training for one patient
  • $250 – partial travel scholarship for a graduate student to attend a scientific conference and present their findings OR – cost of a therapy session for an uninsured individual (sliding scale)
  • $300 – cost of an iPad for one patient’s cognitive training
  • $350 – family therapy session for uninsured family (sliding scale)
  • $500 – psychiatric consultation for one patient (sliding scale)
  • $600- cost of one patient’s research MRI scan (as part of pilot research study to examine brain changes that may occur as a result of cognitive training)
  • $1000- cost of comprehensive psychodiagnostic evaluation for one patient (sliding scale)
