Be AMYazing! Reston Youth Triathlon is now entering its fifth year and has become a regularly anticipated addition to Reston’s triathlon lineup. It has created a fun venue for a growing number of children to test their athletic spirit and achieve their own personal triumphs!
Be AMYazing! Reston Youth Triathlon, is a unique student-inspired, student-led event coordinated by Amy’s Amigos in conjunction with The Core Foundation.
Amy’s Amigos formed in 2008 in memory of Amy Boyle, a sixth grader who lost her battle with brain cancer. Inspired by Amy’s spirit, athleticism and love of life, Amy’s Amigos has participated in the American Cancer Society Relay For Life, numerous fundraisers and then created the annual Be AMYazing! Reston Youth Triathlon . The group has raised over $60,000 dollars in total for cancer research. The $32,000 in proceeds from Reston Youth Triathlon, Be AMYazing! is contributed to the Childhood Brain Tumor Foundation.
Amy’s Amigos was started by a sixth grader six years ago and has now grown exponentially with teen members who celebrate their passion for community service, camaraderie, and life itself. They are leaving an enduring mark on Reston and it’s youth by working side-by-side with adult volunteers, drawing upon the talents of the South Lakes student body to enhance the triathlon experience for the racers, while providing an invaluable learning experience for the students.
Living Fit, Loving Life, Having Fun. That’s what the Reston Youth Triathlon is all about, so come on……….. let’s all Be AMYazing!
