restore a 1955 scenicruiser bus for Freedom Riders film
Organized by: Peter Govorchin
Famed industrial designer led a team of industrial designers to create a revolutionary piece of Americana for Greyhound in the mid 1950's. Only 1001 scenicruisers were ever built and only 28 survive intact with all their original seats, luggage racks, bathroom and trim. My scenicruiser (#566 ) was assigned to Southern Greyhound at the time of the Freedom Rides and may have participated in one or more of the over 300 rides in 1960-1961. I have started the restoration, but need help if it's going to happen in any reasonable amount of time. Fresh engine is ready to go in, original OEM flooring, seat foam and seat covers have been purchased. Several key panels have been removed from derelicts for repairing areas of the body. Once restored, I will take a sabbatical from my teaching position in San Francisco to travel to civil rights parks and record living history on the bus.
