BENEFITING: RESTORE NYC INC
Restore is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to end sex trafficking in New York and restore the well-being and independence of foreign-national survivors. Restore delivers complete, best-in-class holistic care to survivors, addressing physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of survivors. Restore provides long-term housing and community, administers holistic therapies such as counseling, yoga and art therapy, empowers survivors when they cooperate with law enforcement, helps raise community awareness of the plight of sex trafficking survivors and advocates for effective policies and legislation.
The Restore Prize is a biannual public art commission awarded to an outstanding female contemporary artist. The commission will engage powerful female voices in order to raise community awareness and understanding of the plight of sex trafficking survivors and the work of Restore throughout New York City through the unique language of art. The Prize recipient is invited to generate an original art work which draws inspiration from the work of Restore and its safehouse communities.
The inaugural Restore Prize is curated by Tali Wertheimer and will launch in fall of 2013. Wertheimer has selected a renowned scent artist as the first recipient of the prize. For her commission, the artist will create a new range of scents which interpret the journey of a sex trafficking survivor, from victimization to empowerment. The final work will be distributed throughout the city of New York as a public art work and will also be exhibited in a New York gallery.
The Restore Prize is administered by the Restore Board of Directors.
