In these challenging times, The Bronzeville Retail Initiative recognizes that neighborhood mural artwork has the ability to transform lives with depictions of hope and possibilities. Through public art we can beautify our streets but also fuel necessary dialog and foster community connectivity. We ask that you please support us in our efforts to restore our neighborhood treasure, the “Have a Dream” mural.
Created by Dr. Siddha Webber the “Have a Dream” mural is located near 40th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and has been a staple in the Bronzeville community for 19 years. It features excerpts from Dr. King’s speeches, prolific poetry and The Lord’s Prayer. Time has faded the mural’s beauty but, with your financial support, we can return its vitality with a fresh design honoring the lives of prominent role models including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X while highlighting the recent success of the Jackie Robinson West Little League Team. It is our belief that the art will inspire our youth to know they have a future and are able to achieve greatness.
Your contribution goes towards insuring this historical mural and the legacies of Dr. King and Malcolm X live on to inspire our youth and future generations. Further, your contribution will help supply the original muralist, Dr. Webber, and his modest team with necessary art supplies such as paint and brushes.
We have done this before and we can do this again, but only with your help! In 2013, thanks to generous donations from members of the community, we were able to fully restore the "Earth Is Not Our Home" Mural located on the west side of 40th and King Dr. So far we have raised $2500 toward our total $7500 goal.
We hope that you will join us in our continuing efforts to make Bronzeville and the City of Chicago a beautiful place to live and we thank you for your support of the Bronzeville Retail Initiative.
