BENEFITING: Provo Community Church
The Easter Cross is a ten-foot stone cross that was built on Y Mountain in 1939. Click here for the article about the Eagle project. Click here for an article about the Cross's history. Click here or here for other articles about this project. You can also Google "Provo Easter Cross".
On November 7, 2016, we moved the Easter Cross from its home on Y Mountain to its new location in the EastLawn cemetery on Squaw Peak. A few pictures of that process are to your left.
Then, we waited for the snow to melt and spring to come.
Now, spring is here, and things are moving.
Sometime during the winter, a friend connected me with a stonemason who was willing to take on the job of restoring the cross. The current plan is to assemble the cross in the week of April 3 to April 10. The stonemason will put the pieces together. The cemetery backhoe will dig the hole for the footing and help move the pieces into place.
On April 15 at 9 am, a local Eagle candidate will landscape the terrace around the Easter Cross as his Eagle project. Please come to the cemetery and bring your friends. We need lots of people to help.
If you're coming from Provo, the easiest way to find the cemetery is to follow University Avenue north until you reach 4800 N / Orem Center Street / Foothill Drive. Turn right (east) and follow the road past the stop light (Canyon Road) and on up the hill. The cemetery entrance is on the left, just before the road starts to curve (or just after you pass Timpview Drive on the right). Head on in and look for the big American flag.
If you're coming from outside of Provo, take the Orem Center Street exit from I-15 and follow Center Street east for several miles until you reach Provo University Avenue. Then go straight (east), and follow the instructions in the previous paragraph.
Please donate (that orange button at the top of the page) and share this link with everyone you know, so we can finish what we started. Also, if we get enough funding, we can add a bench or two. The Cross is on a terrace with a beautiful view of the valley and would be a wonderful place for peaceful contemplation.
If electronic payments aren't your thing, you can send a check.
