Revitalize the TG Howard Center
Organized by: William Beverly
The T. G. Howard Community Center, located at 320 Altoona Road, celebrated 50 years in existence in November, 2011. This Center has served the community in many different ways from youth center, senior services facility, food bank, political services hub, etc. serving. This facility is one of the last historic buildings left to link the African-American community to their heritage in Pulaski County Virginia.
This building is still standing but has recently closed the doors due to an enormous amount of repairs that are needed to adhere to contemporary standards. A group of concerned citizens have been working to keep the Center open for special events but all resources have been exhausted.
The T.G. Howard board as well as several citizens in the community are continuing their work to keep the legacy of the center alive as well as implement future programs that promote social and economic growth in the community. The T.G. Howard Center board members are requesting help to revitalize this historic facility as a first step in a process that will lead to a number of economic empowerment and personal development programs for at-risk youth in the New River Valley. Help us make this dream a reality.
