Brazil's high and unstable energy prices effect everyone, but no one is more effected than impoverished residents of urban favelas, where energy costs eat up a large part of their income. Therefore, there's great need for a cheap and stable form of energy. This is where Revolusolar comes in: the first urban renewable energy cooperative in Brazil. We seek to bring affordable and stable energy prices to Brazil's favela residents and create a living, democratically controlled customer owned organization that invests strongly in the community it's based.
Please note that the financial plan has changed since the video was made. The cooperative now seeks to raise sufficient seed capital to buy solar panels itself and sell the energy at a cheap and stable price to the consumers, shielding the favela residents from the risk of equipment failure. All the electricity payments will go towards loans on more cooperative-owned solar panels. So, although the cooperative will sustain itself financially once it has enough money to buy the first few installments of solar panels, one of the biggest hurdles is this seed funding. Please, consider making a donation to our fundraiser. Not just a one time donation, this money will be used over and over again as the model spreads. Your help could trigger a long lasting change in a community that needs it badly.
