I’m Ben Terarc and I’m 18 years old. I’m a singer, contemporary dancer and an environmentalist, but my real passion is painting and sculpture. I belong to a group of visual artists in Nakivale Refugee Settlement called Revolution Artists. We paint, sculpt and create together but we also live together and support one another. Our idea is to create a space in Nakivale just for visual artists. There are lots of people here who want to create, but there is no place for us. We would start a studio where people can come and work – a place with supplies for painting and sculpting, where we could train other young artists. That’s what we’re running for on June 20!
What recent work am I most proud of? There is a lot of garbage in Nakivale. We’ve started to make papier mache art from the garbage we find on the street. I want to preserve nature and keep Nakivale beautiful. I also recently completed a mural at the clinic encouraging families to use mosquito nets to prevent malaria.
