BENEFITING: Caminos de Accion
Cristian Henry Cubias Santos was born April 12, 2000 in the community of Tehuiste Abajo in La Paz, El Salvador. He will graduate high school in December 2017 as a Caminos de Accion (CdA) scholarship student and will start university in January 2018 where he wants to study to become the first EMT in his community. A difficulty he currently encounters is getting to school, since he has to cross the river, and in the winter, the river rises and the current becomes much faster, making it difficult to cross and get to school. This would continue to be a problem in university, unless he can find/afford housing in the city. His favorite community project through the CdA Scholarship Program is vaccinating the local dogs and cats for rabies, as well as leading the Community Health Campaign, during which they test their neighbors for parasites and make sure they get the proper medicine. His dad is 38, finished high school and is a carpenter. His mom is 35, finished the 4th grade and is a housewife. His younger sister is in the 5th grade and his brother is in 7th grade.
Caminos de Accion (CdA) works in Los Tehuistes, two rural sister villages in La Paz, El Salvador where, in addition to studying (100% of participants graduate), our students run health and sanitation campaigns, river and street clean ups, and an adult literacy program. The funds that scholarships students receive monthly from Caminos de Accion for transportation, food, tuition, uniforms, and school supplies ensure families don’t have to sacrifice their children’s education.
