Propogating Peace in Burundi
Organized by: Adam Charnas
Burundi is on the edge of a potential atrocity with many believing that a mass murder event along ethnic lines is becoming a possibility. As was the case in Rwanda (and Burundi) in 1994 much of the hate is spread through dangerous propoganda on national radio, designed to create animosity between ethnic groups. We hope to counter the rhetoric of hate and othering, with messages of brotherhood, peace and unity. This can be accomplished through: 1) Purchasing advertising on operational radio stations, and together with local journalists producing adverts to be broadcast. 2) producing content that can be shared and spread via watts-app 3) Sponsoring popular artists in the country to record music that will carry a message of brotherhood and understanding 4) purchasing enough radio-time to produce a show . All messages will be recorded in Kirundi (the local language), and there will be no partisanship, and no support for any of the belligerent parties in the country. Our message is to be UNITY, UNDERSTANDING AND PEACE "We are all Brothers in Burundi!"
