THE STORY:

In a world that is saturated with extraordinary singers, songwriters and musical expression, every once in a while an artist comes along that is set apart from the masses. Rhonda Gunn is that kind of singer, songwriter. Rhonda has a unique blend of musical influences from her earthy Native American heritage, to her early soulful influence from a small Arkansas church where she grew up. But much of her highly acclaimed lyrics and musical ambiance stem from her love for nature and strong spiritual conviction. She has a creative mystic expression that articulates her strong faith in her life with God. Rhonda began her music career in the late 1980's when she signed with Ronnie Milsap Music and Polygram International as a staff songwriter. Her songwriting demos soon landed her a recording contract with Warner Brothers Records in Nashville, Tennessee. In the early 90's Rhonda began writing songs that reflected her Christian faith and vision. She signed with an independent label Damascus Road Records and released her first Christian record. The self-penned Forgiveness CD generated three number one records and five in the top five on the Christian charts. Rhonda won an ASCAP award for one of the most performed songs of 1997. Her second CD, I Wonder If was released in the spring of 1999 and once again topped the charts with two more number one records and five hit songs. In 2001, the record label and publishing company closed its doors suddenly letting all artist and writers go. That, along with personal crisis in Rhonda's life, became a journey through a dark night of soul, steering Rhonda into an isolation with feelings of inadequacy and withdraw. Now, after over a decade of musical silence, Rhonda has began to write and record new songs, reflecting the harrowing to hope through an honest lyrical journey that will inspire and encourage as she returns to her musical calling. Now, with seven songs finished and three more left to record -in addition to some overdubs, mixing, mastering and manufacturing, Rhonda needs your help to complete and release this new project to you and the world. We leave you with an excerpt from Rhonda's book in the works, called "In My Own Words" Please consider being a part of this new Rhonda Gunn record by helping make this new record a reality with us today. Gods blessing, Team Rhonda Gunn New Music Cd Rhonda Gunn~ In My Own Words.... “On some days I feel like parched earth. There is nothing fresh or moving in my life or music. I feel exiled and struggle with the mysteries of a Sovereign God. But here in this place of searching, there is a freedom in the abandonment that pulsates through the canyons of my soul and brings fresh perspective. It is in this place of quiet darkness that I have found the purest light of hope. Raised in a strong legalistic church community, I had no concept of grace. Jesus was just someone hanging on a cross that I colored in Sunday school. Sermons were preached to fear an angry God. Sadly, religion drove me away from the only God who could save me. My first real encounter with a caring God came when I was eight years old. One night I watched my aunt play an old upright piano and I was intrigued. So before going to sleep, I sent a petition with a promise to this unknown God. " If you will let me play the piano and sing, I promise I will play and sing for you all of my life." I fell asleep and had a dream that I was sitting in moonlight across from the Lord. He asked me, "So you want to play the piano and sing?" I nodded yes. He touched my hands and I felt warmth flow through me. I woke up the next morning sat at the piano and played chords and songs for the first time in my life. I was 16 years old when I married. By the time my graduating class in this small rural town in Arkansas was celebrating prom, I was giving birth to my second child. Not long after that, we moved to Nashville where I signed a recording contract with Warner Brothers to write and sing, and I began to have my songs recorded by other famous artists as well. Life was on the fast lane until a hunger for still something more drove me back to the fields of my home in Arkansas where one August afternoon, I finally tasted the amazing grace of a loving God who knew me all along and touched me in that dream all those years ago. It was a beautiful reunion. Soon after, I signed to a Christian Record Label and began to write and record songs that reflected my new found faith in Jesus Christ. All seemed well until the Autumn of 2001 when on the brink of my third CD release, the record company suddenly folded along with the family life I had known for 20 years. I was devastated and retreated from music and ministry. Amazing to me...how in the hungering darkness, God hears the silent cries of our wounds. Amazing to me...how, though no matter how lost we think we are, the Spirit of the Living God is as close as our breath in us. And also amazing to me...is the beauty of His Grace.. that whispers to us on the dawn of each morning that there are mercies awaiting that are ...new. And so it is, on the strength of these new mercies and the hope of restoration, that I reach again to the gift that was imparted to me as an eight year old little girl years ago and yield myself to the divine direction of the Sovereign God.” To God alone, be the glory...
