Rhonda's 50th Birthday & La 72 Migrant Shelter
Organized by: Rhonda Walker
Turning 50 years old this summer has made me realize that I cannot truly the celebrate my life without helping those who need it most. After 5 years of volunteering with No More Deaths and other humanitarian aid orgs, I really need to take the next step and be present with these travelers as they make their way north. The shelter is near the Guatemalan border, and migrants arrive here after walking for 2 days across the Guatemalan border. The shelter fills up with about 200 people every couple of days, and then empties out as the train comes every 3 days or so, and then slowly fills up again. There are also longer term residents awaiting asylum to be in Mexico. We have over 1,000 guests a month. About 50 women a month, and about 10 kids a month. This funding will enable me to purchase medical supplies, and spend 7-10 days working at the shelter. Please send me to La 72!!!
