BENEFITING: The Mennonite Literary Society
EVENT DATE: Sep 07, 2016
Rhubarb magazine launches R39 Dis/Ability and Rhubarb Out Loud, September 7th at Sam's Place in Winnipeg exactly a month from now. We intend to raise $3,000 in 30 days to complete Rhubarb Out Loud.
Dis/Ability is the theme of Rhubarb magazine's 39th issue now available on news-stands, and has been mailed to our subscribers. We are recording a significant portion of the issue to be available to the visually impaired, so they can access audio online and listen to Rhubarb Out Loud, featuring initial selections from our Dis/Ability issue. Tax deductible receipts will be issued to donors from Winnipeg, home to the Mennonite Literary Society, a registered Canadian charity.
We need your help so we can make this available on our website Rhubarbmag.com and other selected sites at no charge to listeners. Rhubarb magazine has published 39 themed issues since its inception in 1998, featuring (loosely defined) Mennonite writing and art.
Writers we have published include original trailblazers like Rudy Wiebe, Di Brandt, Patrick Friesen, with Julia Spicher Kasdorf and Jeff Gundy in the U.S. Our best artists have included, Aganetha Dyck whose work is featured on our Dis/Ability cover, Wanda Koop, Gathie Falk in Canada and Don Schwartzengruber in the United States. New discoveries include Winnipeg's Angeline Schellenberg, featured in the Dis/Ability issue, Kevin Spenst in Vancouver on Rhubarb Out Loud, and Abigial Carl-Klassen from Texas.
