The first truck of rice arrives
September 22, 2016
I'm an introvert so normally on my birthday hide somewhere and deactivate comments on my facebook wall for the day so that no one would notice. But this year I want to be noticed but I don't want cake, I want rice. I live and work with Karen people many of whom do not know when their birthdays are. They are undoucmented and didn't have the luxury of being born in a hospital. If you have stayed at The Chai Lai Orchid you have enjoyed the warmth and hospitality of Karen people forced to flee their homes because of war, but you would never know from their kindness and smiles. In the last 2 weeks thousands of Karen people have fled their homes and there have been reports of casualties in the hundreds and fighting persists in the areas of Karen State. Volunteer aid workers in Myaing Gyi Ngu estimate that 3,800 villagers who have fled the fighting are displaced and he numbers are increasing. When we, as a global community come together we can help to provide people with a basic human right – the right to food. We have the power to provide a warm meal and create hope. Just 15 CAD buys a person enough rice for every meal for a month. Just 50 cents is enough rice for one person to have 3 meals. No donation is too small. Please help us feed Karen refugees.
