Rice Family War Memorial
Organized by: Allegra Rice Morton
Robert Rice (97) and Kenneth Rice (88) are two out of the four Rice brothers from Travelers Rest, South Carolina who served our country during WWII. Robert served in the Army Air Corp as a mechanic on the B25's and was stationed in North Africa and Corsica. Kenneth was in the Merchant Marines. Both men have suffered tremendous losses recently. Robert lost two sons within two months of each other last summer, and Kenneth just lost a son in December. In an effort to bring some joy to their lives, Robert's daughter Debbie applied for the two men to join an upcoming Honor Flight. Both men were accepted into the program and are thrilled to have the chance to make this trip together to see their Memorial in Washington. For Robert and Kenneth, as for all the veterans, the trip is free. But the family members who accompany them as guardians must pay their way. As difficult of a year this has been, Robert's last living son, Oliver not only lost 2 brothers in one summer, but one of them was his twin. It has taken an especially devastating tole on Oliver, and Robert as well. As Robert has lived 97 long fulfilling years, we do not know if he will reach 98, and this trip could be the last time Father and son are together on this Earth. What a better memory to hold close to his heart. This would be the blessing of a lifetime to help in sending Oliver to be with his uncle and father during such a prestigious commemoration of service to our country. Oliver set up this Crowdrise account to raise funds for his trip to accompany both his Father and Uncle. He needs forty sponsors at the $20.00 level to reach his goal. Please consider helping to make this possible. God Bless!
